Dr. Haifeng Shen, an Associate Professor of Information Technology at Australian Catholic University, will be sharing his expertise in Human-AI Interaction through Annotated Attention Heatmaps at the HCI Meetup#5. His talk highlights the challenges of human understanding in deep neural networks and its impact on trust in AI systems. He presents a human-AI interactive sensemaking framework using annotated attention heatmaps to bridge this gap, allowing humans and AI algorithms to mutually understand and fine-tune reasoning. The talk includes a case study demonstrating significant improvements in image classification accuracy using this framework. Dr. Shen’s diverse research interests include intelligent software and interaction technologies, human-centered interaction design, explainable AI, human-AI teaming, and more. With his extensive background and contributions in the field, he is the director of HilstLab, which explores innovative software solutions and studies their impact on humans’ trust, user experience, and task performance.
